Oh man, das Wetter ist ja ein auf und ab zur Zeit, daher hier ein Outfit für die nicht ganz so warmen Tage. Unter dem Kittel sieht man leider das raffinierte Rückenteil nicht, aber dafür dann beim gemütlichen Kaffee nach der Arbeit 😉 .

The weather has it´s ups and downs at the moment, therefore an outfit for the not so summery days. Unfortunately you can´t see the back under the white coat, but you can see it when you go for a little shopping or coffee after work 😉 .

Die Sonne scheint und die Temperaturen werden wärmer, daher präsentiere ich euch heute eines meiner neuen Lieblingsoutfits für den Sommer 🙂 . Ob mit Sandalen lässig zum Stadtbummel oder abends elegant mit Highheels mit diesem Zweiteiler von Anja Gockel seht ihr immer gut aus und dabei ist er auch noch soooo bequem! Auch für den Urlaub ist er perfekt ob, wie hier gezeigt, zusammen oder Hose und Shirt je getrennt, es ergeben sich vielfältige Kombinationsmöglichkeiten….

You can wear it with sandals for shopping or with highheels for an elegant evening outfit. Traveling back in time

Erst einmal möchte ich mich entschuldigen, dass es hier nach Berlin so still war. Das lag daran, dass ich neben den vielen Diensten und ab und an einem Workout auch noch ein paar Lernsession einstreuen musste, da die Prüfung zur Chirurgie angeborener Herzfehler anstand. Und tatsächlich habe ich alles bestanden und bin nun auch noch Kinderherzchirurgin!

Zeitgleich war ich auch auf der Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Thorax- , Herz- und Gefäßchirurgie in Leipzig. Es war insgesamt ein schöner und interessanter Kongress, allerdings gab es eine Session in der ich mich ins Mittelalter zurückversetzt fühlte. Es gab mal wieder den fast schon obligatorischen Vortrag über Frauen in der Chirurgie. Hier sprach ein Chefarzt über das „Problem“ Frauen in der Herzchirurgie. Denn erstens haben wir nur 70% der Muskelmasse von Männern und zweitens ist es ja immer noch die Frau, die die Kinder bekommt, insofern müssen dann die mänlichen Kollegen für uns mitarbeiten.Ich war echt schockiert, da er es offensichtlich auch noch ernst meinte! Und dabei ist er mit 49 Jahren noch einer der recht jungen Chefärzte. Ich konnte darauf auch nicht einmal etwas erwiedern, da ich diese Denkweise so unfassbar fand!

Nun zu der Muskelmasse: auch wenn ich Crossfit mache, habe ich auch vorher noch nicht bemerkt, dass es sonderlich viel Muskelkraft verlangt am Herzen zu operieren. Die Männer müssen für uns mitarbeiten? Was ist bitte mit der Armada von Männdern, die Elternzeit nehmen? Was ist mit dem Kollegen der nur 80% arbeitet? Was ist mit den älteren Kollegen, die nur noch die Hälfte der Dienste machen? Was ist damit, dass ich jahrelang im Sommer keinen Urlaub nehmen konnte, wegen der Kollegen mit schulpflichtigen Kindern? Ich glaube es auf den Fakt zu reduzieren, dass Frauen nun mal die Kinder kriegen ist zu einfach!

Ich frage mich nur wovor die Männer Angst haben? Davor, dass das Bild vom „Superhelden“ – Chirurgen bröckelt, wenn Frauen plötzlich die gleiche Arbeit machen und das vielleicht auch noch besser? Ich habe echt keine Ahnung….habt ihr Ideen?

Ich befürchte nur, dass sich die Bedingungen für Frauen in der Chirurgie nicht ändern werden, solange solche Leute Führungspositionen innehaben!

 

Traveling back in time

First I have to apologize for being so silent after Berlin, but in between my crazy schedule and working out I had to fit in some learning session as I had my board certification in congenital cardiac surgery last week….and guess what? I did it and am now an officially certified pediatric cardiac surgeon!

Besides that I attended the annual meeting of the German Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. It was a nice meeting taking place in Leipzig with interesting sessions and conversations. BUT in one session I was traveling back in time as there was a talk about women in surgery. One head of the department gave it and he stated that having female surgeons in the department is a problem: that we have only 70% of the men´s muscle mass and the most important fact: we are having the babies and therefore the men have to work more to compensate our „weaknesses“.And it wasn´t one of the old professors, but with 49yo a fairly young one. I was just sitting there unable to comment on that being in utter shock! What the f…..???? What did he just say? Is he really believing that?

Obviously he is! First: besides being a crossfitter, I have never noticed that you need a lot of muscular strength to operate on someones heart. Second: what about the colleague who takes parental leave (very trendy at the moment), what about a colleague who works 80%, what about the older colleagues who are doing only half of the on calls in a month, what about me having to work all summer for the colleagues who have children in school and going on holiday? I think breaking it down to us women having babies is just to easy!

I am wondering what they are afraid of? That there image of the amazing surgeon with inhuman superpowers is falling when women can do the same or better? I really am clueless…. Do you have any ideas?

I guess as long as surgeons with that attitude are in leadership positions, nothing will change for the better for women in surgery!

Berlin Fashion Week

So, meine Lieben, es ist an der Zeit euch von meinen Erlebnissen in Berlin zu erzählen und um euch einen Ausblick auf den modischen Winter 2017 zu geben, damit ihr wisst, welches Schnäppchen sich aktuell noch lohnt.

Am Sonntag Abend ging es für mich erst mal zum CrossfitWerk Berlin um mich nochmal so richtig auszupowern, die anschließende Lasagne bei meinem Lieblingsitaliener diente zur Stärkung für die kommenden Tage.

Am Montag ging es dann zur ersten Modemesse, der Show&Order. Hier gab es schon einen ersten Eindruck, bevor es dann am Dienstag zur Panorama und am Mittwoch zur Premium ging.

Natürlich machte ich auch zwei Zwischenstopps am Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Zelt am Brandenburger Tor einmal zur Sportalm Kitzbühel Show und am Mittwoch zu Anja Gockel, die hier ihr 20jähriges Jubiläum feierte. Da ich bei Anja Gockel ein Ticket für die Front Row hatte, stoppte ich vorher noch bei L’Oreal um mein Styling zu optimieren. Ich dachte ja bislang, dass meine Schnittlauchlocken keine Lockenpracht ergeben könnten, aber weit gefehlt. Die zauberhafte Nahema zauberte unglaubliche Locken auf meinen Kopf, die auch wirklich bis zum späten Abend hielten. Die Show selber war, wie immer sehenswert und machte Lust auf den Herbst/ Winter 16/17.

Aber was sind die Trends für den nächsten Winter?

Fake Fur/ Fur in allen Farben und Mustern. Ob als Weste, Schal (z.B. wie mein Schal oben von Anja Gockel) oder Jacke hier lohnt es sich im Schlussverkauf nochmal zuzuschlagen.

Auch die Culotte hält sich hartnäckig auch im nächsten Winter.

Strick in Oversize bleibt auch.

Allerdings wird der nächste Winter etwas bunter als dieser, vor allem Rottöne waren stark vertreten.

Also, viel Spaß beim Shoppen!

 

Berlin Fashion Week

So, my lovely readers it´s about time to tell you about my recent adventures at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin. Furthermore I give you an outlook on the trends for winter 2017 and tips on what to buy in the ongoing sale right now.

On Sunday evening I started with a crossfit class at CrossfitWerk Berlin and a heartening lasagne at my favorite italian restaurant.

The first fashion fair started on Monday, the Show&Order, so I got a first impression of the coming fall/ winter collection. On Tuesday I visited the Panorama and on Wednesday I went to the Premium. Obviously I made a pitstop at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tent opposite the Brandenburger Tor as well to visit the Sportalm Show and the Show from Anja Gockel, who celebrated her 20th anniversary. As I got a front row seat at Anja Gockel, I stopped at the L’Olreal booth first, to give my style a polish. The lovely Nahema made wonderful curls out of my normally very straight hair. Merely sensational…it stayed that way all the way through the night! The show itself was wonderful and I am very much looking forward to next winter.

But what trends are coming for fall/ winter 16/17?

Fake fur/ fur in all colors and patterns. In form of vests, scarf (like mine above from Anja Gockel) and coats. So, find yourself one on sale right now!

The culottes are still a trend.

Oversize knitwear as well.

But next winter will add a little color to it, mostly different shades of red.

So, have fun shopping!

 

 

 

Dreaming of spring

Giftwrapping

Morgen ist Weihnachten :-). Da ich die letzte Woche Urlaub hatte ist es bei mir dieses Jahr sehr stressfrei und alle Geschenke sind besorgt und verpackt. Bevor ihr jetzt neidisch werdet, da ihr gerade wie blöd durch die Stadt rennt um das Letzte zu besorgen und dann mit Grauen an die Einpack-Orgie denkt, die ihr noch vor euch habt, dann habe ich etwas für euch. Hier sind ein paar Beispiele, wie man Geschenke verpacken kann, denn eine schöne Verpackung ist fast genauso wichtig wie der Inhalt. Mit einer liebevollen Verpackung drückt ihr aus, dass euch der Mensch etwas bedeutet und ihr Mühe und Zeit investiert habt. Ich freue mich auf jeden Fall immer sehr über schöne selbst eingepackte Geschenke.

Ich schenke auch immer der OP-Pflege, den Kardiotechnikern, den Sekretärinnen, den Arzthelferinnen eine Kleinigkeit um mich für die Zusammenarbeit des vergangenen Jahres zu bedanken. Auch die Station bekommt eine große Weihnachtstüte mit Lebkuchen und anderen Leckereien, für diejenigen, die an Weihnachten arbeiten müssen. Es dauert zwar etwas alles zu besorgen und zu verpacken, aber es lohnt sich.

 

It´s Christmas tomorrow….oh I am excited! But you probably run around errands to get the last gifts (or any at all) and prepare for the big day. In this stressful setting gift wrapping can be a really annoying duty, but it is as important as the present itself. With the perfect gift wrapping you can express how much you love the one you are giving to. A nice wrapping gives me a smile and it does look good under the christmas tree :-). If you are running out of ideas I put together my presents for this christmas, be it for family, friends or my staff at the hospital, to give you some inspiration on how the wrap the present.

Speaking of the gifts for the hospital staff. I always give little presents to the OR staff, the perfusionists, the secretaries and a huge Santa bag with sweets for the ward for those working on Christmas. It is a lot of work to get it all sorted and wrapped, but I think it is a nice idea, to say thank you for all the work they do for you over the year. So, maybe you consider that next year…it will make your work a little easier.

Wie ihr wahrscheinlich schon bemerkt habt liebe ich die Adventszeit und Besuche auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt mit Glühwein und gebrannten Mandeln gehören einfach dazu. Bislang war ich schon auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt in Freiburg, der Ravenna Schlucht, in Basel und heute kommt noch Stuttgart dazu. Hier sind zwei meiner Outfits um mich warm zu halten…auch wenn das momentan bei den Temperaturen nicht ganz so nötig ist ;-).

As you might have noticed I love the holiday season and visits to the christmas market are mandatory for me and Glühwein as well as roasted almonds are a must. So far I have been to the markets in Freiburg, Ravenna Schlucht, Basel and today I will add Stuttgart. So here are some of my outfits to keep me warm…..even if it´s not that necessary at the moment with this rising temperatures ;-).

Christmas decoration

Ich liebe Weihnachten und die Adventszeit und dekoriere dann auch entsprechend meine Wohnung. Letztes Wochenende, pünktlich zum ersten Advent, war es dann wieder soweit, die Kugeln, Engel und Nikoläuse wurden aus dem Keller geholt und bei mir zu Hause verteilt.  Hier ein paar Impressionen und Anregungen.

I just love christmas and the holiday season! Just in time for the first advent last weekend I got all the angels, santa`s and christmas ornaments from the storage and draped them in my home. Here are some impressions.

…nein, nicht noch ein Artikel über die CO2-Bilanz oder unser ökologisches Gewissen…sondern ein Loblied auf den Herbst. Ich selbst bin ja ein bekennendes Sommermädchen und mag den grauen und regnerischen Herbst nun mal gar nicht! Aber dieses Jahr ist alles anders…Temperaturen um die 20°C, sich die Sonne auf den Bauch scheinen lassen und in der Sonne joggen gehen, abends noch ewig draussen zu sitzen sind Dinge an die ich mich definitiv gewöhnen kann. Daher hoffe ich, dass dieses Jahr der Herbst noch ein bißchen länger bleibt ;-).

Global warming

..no, not another article on CO2 footprints and ecological conscience…but a praise of this years fall! I am a self-confessed summer girl and not really keen on the grey and rainy fall, but this years fall is just wonderful. Sitting and running in the sunshine by day and sitting outside at a bar at night are things I could get used to in fall. Therefore I hope it will stay a little bit longer this year ;-).
